Boon Boona Coffee is a Black-owned roastery/cafe out of Renton, WA. We're looking to recruit folks of diverse backgrounds, gender and sexual identities, and lived experiences to work with us. Boon Boona Coffee began its journey in 2012 by procuring quality African green coffee for the East African community. In January 2019, we opened our brick & mortar roastery/café in Renton, and expanded into more cafes, partnerships and online presence.     • Guidance and support to participate in coffee competitions upon demonstrated interest
    • Coffee sensory evaluation (cupping) training that is designed with CQI's Q Grader curriculum in mind
    • Training on sample & profile roasting upon demonstrated interest
    • Financial and logistical support for extra-curricular projects when possible

Position's daily responsibilities:

    • Operate commercial coffee roaster, executing production roasts according to the predetermined profiles
    • Occasionally assist Director of Coffee in sample roasting incoming coffee samples
    • Attend regular sensory analysis (coffee sensory evaluation) practices at the roastery
    • Assist in regular cleaning of roasting equipment & facility
    • Assist in fulfillment of individual and wholesale orders in an efficient & timely manner
    • Occasionally prepare shipping labels, ensuring accuracy of customer and delivery order information
    • Prepare retail coffee bags for fulfillment
    • Assist in daily production requirements, assuring accurate and efficient product fulfillment

Physical components and requirements of this position:

    • An open-minded and empathetic personality with cooperative and self-disciplined work ethic
    • Strong interest in coffee and expansion of professional development
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Attention to detail to ensure minimal deviations from roast profiles
    • Efficient time management skills
    • ⁸Basic literacy in MS Excel, Google Sheets, and email applications
    • Experience in operating Cropster Roasting Intelligence preferred
    • 1+ years of commercial roasting experience required, 2+ years preferred
    • Must be comfortable with independent work
    • Must be comfortable working with a small team
    • 8+ hour roasting shifts 4-5 days per week
    • Repetitive motions for extended time frames
    • Often lifting up to 40lbs overhead
    • Often unloading/organizing green coffee burlap bags (132lbs), typically with the assistance of another person
    • 2-4 monthly roasting shifts at Renton Cafe, so a car & drivers license preferred, but not required.

Compensation & perks:

    • Hourly rate range $23-$25 per hour
    • Health benefits (medical, dental, vision) – available after 60 days and maintained +25 hours
    • 7 days PTO on an accrual basis plus paid sick time
    • Complimentary 1lb of green or roasted coffee per month
